LemurLounge - do lemurs want to listen to audio?
There is much contrasting results and opinions on whether primates prefer silence or certain music or sounds. And what about when it comes to different species within primates? How does lemur and monkey preferences differ? Just like for humans, there are also individual differences. There is not enough studies on the topic and with different species to form understanding if audio stimuli could be something that primates seek out and that could increase their wellbeing. In this project we aimed to replicate a study that was conducted with white-faced sakis in Korkeasaari Zoo in Helsinki, with multiple species of lemurs housed in Blair Drummond Safari Park in Stirling, Scotland. Both these studies introduced a device built for the particular species to interact with to hear audio stimuli: sounds and music.
